Well, it seems that blogging on more than one blog (which I was) can turn out to be a bit of a disaster if you’re not a full-time blogger. We full-time web designers like designing…imagine that. So instead of having a crappy, rarely updated blog, we are going to be putting a full-fledged bi-monthly newsletter in its place. (And by the way, we’re not sure if bi-monthly means twice a month or every other month, but in this case, it means every other month.)
And no, the newsletter will not be all “Hey, buy a website!” It will be more like “Here are some cool ideas for your business and for your web presence. Just because we love you.”
If you want a piece of that action (alongside a no-spam guarantee), just fill out our contact form, and say “Hey, sign me up.” We’ll do so, stat.

This past week, we’ve launched two new sites that we’re incredibly excited about. Startup Princess is a site dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs. Kelly King Anderson, the founder of Startup Princess, is the amazing and talented woman who has built this incredible resource over the past several years. Entrepreneur magazine and Costco Connection have both recognized Startup Princess as one of THE top resources for women entrepreneurs.
The second is Welcome Home, a new Virginia-based company that provides targeted advertising for local businesses. Shari Barker, the mastermind behind it all, is terrificly knowledgeable about what she does, and I have no doubt that they will soon be a highly sought-after advertising venue.

For the past year, I’ve had this vision for a website dedicated to Virginia Beach locals. I had huge plans for this thing — so huge, in fact, that I never got started on it. The domain name has been sitting in its shiny little package on cyberspace, never to be truly loved.
But then I decided, why wait? I have a lot to say, so I might as well go ahead and say it. So I shrunk my plans a little bit and decided to just write.
Introducing vabeachnik.com, a local’s blog dedicated to all the things that make Virginia Beach great.

Everything’s transferred now. Badah bing, badah boom. The new feed is working. The old feed is not. Life is now back to normal around here.
So why does it take so long to switch where your site is being hosted? Well, that’s a good question. It has to do with all of the root name servers in the world (over 130) having to update your CNAME records. If you’re very nerdy, you can read all about it here.
The short version is: don’t worry about it. It is what it is. Some of the servers update quicker than others, so some people see the new site faster than others. All you can do is wait.
The best way to avoid problems is to keep your old site up until you’re sure that all the world’s root name servers have been updated. To avoid confusion, don’t update your new website until everything has been transferred over. Especially if you have a blog.
There’s got to be some pithy saying somewhere about following your own advice. I know there must be. I really need to write it on my hand or something.

Our email is now fully functional. Still having trouble with parts of the blog, though. All of the transfers should be complete within 24 hours, so we are counting on everything being fixed by then.
Also, if you subscribe through our RSS feed, please note that the feed address has changed. It is now http://feeds.feedburner.com/sjoystudios.

We moved our hosting over on Monday, and it takes 24-48 hours to go into effect. Now that it has finally processed, we’re experiencing some glitches (one major one being that our email is not working properly). If you need to contact us, please email sarahjbray AT gmail DOT com.
We should have everything resolved soon, and we’ll let you know.

John and I are pretty excited about the launch of the new site. We’ve been working on it for the past few weeks, and we think it speaks a lot better about who we are and what we do around here.
The blog part of our site is something we’re especially thrilled with. Since we’re all about helping artists, creative professionals, and small business owners create something memorable online, we want to feature some of our favorites here. We’ll also be posting articles to inspire and educate you to succeed at your life’s work. The internet’s a big place, and we want to make you feel a little more like a local.
Thanks to all of our supporters out there. We’re glad to have folks like you on our side.
