Rolling on the high seas

With all of the peanut-y goodness, I haven’t taken a chance to update everyone on the directly personal side of things over here. The title sums it up. I have no idea where I got that metaphor from, but that’s what my life feels like right now. Complete and utter bliss. With a bit of danger and excitement mixed in for adventure.

You may have noticed I’ve been operating on a modified posting schedule lately…it’s all Tuesday, all the time. At least for a little while. Several good reasons for this. The first: my kids are in preschool now. It’s a decision that we didn’t expect to be making, but…guess what?! John got hired! As in, his first real-life career-type job in his field (which is, by the way, 3D animation). Ecstasy! It’s been 8 years (yes, EIGHT) in the making, so we are crazy proud and excited over here.

So, back to the preschool thing. I decided that when the kids started going to school, I was only going to work while they were at school. It’s one of the Very Big Perks. No more “Sorry, mom can’t smear finger paint on the walls with you because she’s working.”

It’s been two weeks, and oh wow. I must have been working a lot more than I thought, because squeezing everything into 6 hours is a wee bit of a challenge. I can get all of my client work done, but email is a giant ugly pig who can go jump in the river. And all of the fun stuff I love the MOST (the social web-type stuff) has been sending me tear-drenched letters of “What did I do wrong? Come back to me, Sarah!”. (Turns out, Twitter writes pretty good sob letters.)

So I have to figure that out. In the meantime, Tuesdays are blog-rocking days. Note to my clients and friends: Do not try this at home. It’s not a strategic move, and is, in fact, stupid. I am inwardly cringing because I know I’m kicking my marketing plan in the privates.

A culmination of happy thoughts

So basically, all my dreams came true this weekend. Husband doing a job that he loves and that we have been working toward for eight years…check. Kids in an amazing Montessori program that they come home giddy about every day…check. Me getting to work alone, which is what I love best in the world…check.

And then? Then? Books are showering down on me from the heavens. And I love books! You may not know it about me, but if I only had books and toast, my life would be absolutely perfect.

So first, the lovely and ingenuous Heather Allard chose to send me a copy of the new 4 hour workweek. Which I’m totally honored and ecstatic about (thank you, Heather!).

Second, Nathan Briggs sent me a bag of tea from the UK — how cool is that? Completely generous and unannounced. Makes me all warm and cozy.

Third, I got a card from Danielle Laporte! In the mail! Love love. (Really, that’s what it says on the front. You should check out her notecards…they are fantastic.)

And finally, are you ready?

My picture is on the inside jacket cover of Seth Godin’s forthcoming book Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? along with some other really amazing entrepreneurs, like the above-mentioned Danielle Laporte and Brian Clark (At least, I think Brian’s on there. It’s actually an unconfirmed rumor. You know how I love gossip. [also, that was sarcasm. I really hate gossip. But I love parenthetical notes!])

So there you go. I have decided that this is the most awesome week of my life so far. Please don’t go gag in the toilet at my giddiness. (Not that you are the type of people who would do that. I particularly wrote “people who do not get annoyed by being around me” on the target market line of my print-your-own business plan. [That, by the way, was also sarcasm. I have no business plan. But if I wanted one, I would totally be checking out Chris Guillebeau's and Pam Slim's latest project.])

And for more fun, check out this sarcasm punctuation mark. It has been cracking me up for a full one and a half days.

“If I only had books and toast, my life would be absolutely perfect.”

Best line ever – even if the rest of the post were not so fantastic, that line alone would have left me grinning ear to ear! Love!

Wow Sarah that’s is just a fantastic week, and we’re only in the third one of January. Look at how many more amazing weeks you get to have in 2010.

I love that your life would be complete with tea and books. It’s rare to find people who know exactly what makes them happy.

And big congrats on the Seth Godin inside cover, love that man and read his blog avidly – like so many others.

OKAY THEN. I will fully express my giddiness right here in the comments.

    YES, YES, YESSSSSS!!!

And guys, I am telling you. Getting John through school has been like climbing a big, steep, gigantic mountain. I’m sure you can relate to exactly what I’m talking about. Sweat, tears, and everything. But I am so proud of us for doing this. I’m proud of all of the giant scary leaps and for moving on when we thought we couldn’t take anymore of the work and the dangling carrots.

    NO MORE DANGLING CARROTS!

OMG Sarah! What a rockin, awesome week! I am so incredibly happy for you and your family. And thanks for sharing with us as well. I feel giddy myself now! ha ha. OH, and being a book junkie and somewhat introvert as well, i can so appreciate your comment, “And then? Then? Books are showering down on me from the heavens. And I love books! You may not know it about me, but if I only had books and toast, my life would be absolutely perfect.” I totally get that!
