On hiring a personal assistant

Nick Cernis wrote a detailed article today comparing the services of three of the more popular personal assistant services — LongerDays, GetFriday, and AskSunday (such similar names!). I won’t spoil it for you, but one of them definitely came out ahead (and if you read The 4-Hour Workweek, it’s not the one you’d think.)

I have not yet seriously considered hiring a personal assistant. So far, I’m only hiring someone to watch my kids twice a week, four hours a day. It gives me a few good blocks of time to schedule meetings in. But as our company grows, we really might need to consider it.

Has anyone else actually read The 4-Hour Workweek? It is insane. Here’s what I got out of it: Start a company that doesn’t need you around much, outsource everything that can be outsourced, answer your email only once a week, become incredibly effective during your four hours of work time, and travel the globe. Easy.

Wow, I think I posted every day this week. Must be some kind of record. Oh yes, and if you’re the praying type, pray for the many people who are losing their jobs today. Corporate layoffs are really hitting home this morning.

Yeah, that was a record indeed. Then again, the word “record” implies that you will either be constantly beating it and setting new ones, or constantly fall behind. =)

Oh yes. And I’ll leave that to you to decide. :)
