Thanks to all of you lovely, patient people

Everything’s transferred now. Badah bing, badah boom. The new feed is working. The old feed is not. Life is now back to normal around here.

So why does it take so long to switch where your site is being hosted? Well, that’s a good question. It has to do with all of the root name servers in the world (over 130) having to update your CNAME records. If you’re very nerdy, you can read all about it here.

The short version is: don’t worry about it. It is what it is. Some of the servers update quicker than others, so some people see the new site faster than others. All you can do is wait.

The best way to avoid problems is to keep your old site up until you’re sure that all the world’s root name servers have been updated. To avoid confusion, don’t update your new website until everything has been transferred over. Especially if you have a blog.

There’s got to be some pithy saying somewhere about following your own advice. I know there must be. I really need to write it on my hand or something.
